Gold & brown guitar with banyan tree roots on it, with MAUI 2003 with yellow logo. This pin commemorates the 130th birthday of the famous Banyan Tree in Lahaina, Maui. Imported from India and first planted in April 1873 (it was 8 feet tall then), it marked the 50th anniversary of Christian missionary work in Lahaina. Today it stands over 60 feet tall, has 12 major trunks in addition to a huge core and is stretches over a 200 foot area. The tree shades over 2/3rds of an acre! It is one of the largest Banyan Trees in the world and it a popular site in Lahaina for local art shows. This year, Lahaina celebrates the Banyan Tree's Birthday on April 12-13, 2003.
